SYNOPSIS:
For its 14th Annual Open Evening, AWOL Studios welcomes any and all curious members of the public into Hope Mill, a Grade II* listed landmark in Ancoats, and invites them to explore its four historical labyrinthine floors. Housing a huge range of creatives from painters, sculptors, textile workers and tattooists (as well as a few renegades who refuse to be classified!), AWOL Studios has established itself as one of Manchester’s most diverse and enduring creative communities.
As always, it will hold an in-house residents’ exhibition, centering this year on the theme of New Icons, which will showcase a range of mixed media pieces discussing, and aiming to re-energise or even reinvent, modern Manchester’s visual identity. Our 5th floor neighbours Comme Ca Art will host their own independent exhibition in their gallery, boasting incredible panoramic perspectives of the surrounding area and a chance to see an aerial view of Ancoats as the area develops and evolves.
Drinks will be on offer as well as a chance to mingle with residents and chat about their practices. It’s a great opportunity to peek behind-the-scenes, get inspired, network or even just have a nosy!
