Jo Scorah,

We visited Jo Scorah at her solo exhibition ‘Moments of Expulsion’ at ArtWork Atelier in Salford. Jo’s work is concerned with the problems of cultural, racial and social disruption and displacement, particularly in the Middle East and Syria where she has family roots.

Her exhibition including a central installation, drawings and paintings is the product of an Arts Council funded residency at ArtWork Atelier.

In the interview Jo mentions a couple of interesting links:
Name of the TED Speaker is Dr Aala-El-Khani and her talk 'From Bombs to Bread' can be watched on YouTube:

You can find the video 'From Syria to Scotland' by Dr Shameela Islam-Zulfiqar on

This short film provides a fascinating insight to life on Bute Island after the arrival of 15 Syrian refugee families. These people were some of the first UK Government 'approved' resettlement families to arrive in December of 2015. The film was aimed at capturing the human cost of families ripped apart by war and conflict- the mental scars are quite often much deeper than physical ones.
