SYNOPSIS:
An exhibition of photographic and graphic work from School of the Arts students, some documenting the transformation of the platform buildings.
In partnership with the University of Bolton School of the Arts, Bolton Station Community Development Partnership are working with Northern, Network Rail and Transport for Greater Manchester to create a Community Arts, Culture and Heritage Centre in the old Platform 4/5 buildings. The Platform Gallery is on the ground floor of this extensive development and provides a venue with public access in a unique setting. Photography and graphics students have been working on aspects of the developing project and this exhibition includes examples of Graphic Design work together with documentary photographic images charting the changes to the spaces within the platform buildings.
When finished, the Platform Arts Centre will provide spaces for diverse community groups, start-up businesses and resident artists to work together. This will also give students studying for Youth & Community and Health & Social Care qualifications the opportunity to work on live community projects in a creative environment.
The Platform Gallery will provide a showcase for the art works created at the Centre and for visiting artists to exhibit their work. This is the first exhibition in this exciting new space.
